This shell sculpture was created five years ago, during an early period of my exploration of form and material. It is one of my first ocean-inspired works made through the Raku technique — a rare, experimental firing method in which ceramic undergoes extreme thermal shifts and direct interaction with open flame.

The character of its surface was shaped by the reduction environment: after the initial firing, the piece was placed into a bed of wood shavings, where the absence of oxygen produced deep smoky tones, darkened crackle patterns, and a mineral-like, fossilized texture. The small red marks on the surface are the result of glaze transfer from another piece during the firing — an accidental imprint of the shared process, impossible to recreate intentionally.

Due to its scale, the shell experienced significant thermal shock and cracked — an inherent part of Raku, where risk is embedded in the technique. Years later, it was restored by a Kintsugi master, who filled each fracture with silver, transforming the points of rupture into visual accents and highlighting the work’s layered history.

This sculpture brings together multiple states: the original form, the traces of fire, the accidental marks, the breakage, and the restoration through traditional Kintsugi. It represents a unique interaction of material, chance, and time — a piece that cannot be replicated and exists as a singular object.

The sculpture is presented on a stable metal stand, custom-made to support its vertical display.

Shipping & Returns

Packages can be shipped internationally via DHL. Shipping price is calculated during checkout. Orders are shipped from Germany. DHL delivery times are usually 3-8 days within EU and 10-20 days for the rest of the world.

Note for the USA customers: Due to recent changes in US customs, delivery to the USA can now only be done with DHL Express, which is more expensive. Additionally you will now have to pay customs fees. You can message me for the cheaper delivery option, but in this case it will take up to 3 months to deliver the order, and customs fees will have to be paid anyway.

Please note that I do everything myself, so I also need time to prepare the package for delivery, which is usually extra 2-3 days.

If your country is not available for checkout for some reason, please contact me and I will double check if it is possible to send to you.

When delivering outside of European Union, taxes, customs fees or import duties may apply. You are responsible for paying these taxes, fees and duties to your local authority. For precise information about the costs involved, please contact your local government or post office.

Please note that I pack very securely to protect the items from damaging, but it is still possible for something to happen during delivery, as ceramics and porcelain is inherently fragile and delivery companies under rare circumstances may be careless - for further information on what to do in this case please check the shipping policy or the return policy.
